Secure Meters is a high-traffic communal facility in Bristol, designed by Studio Saar with the same commitment to craft and material quality that runs through all of the practice's work. A solid Douglas Fir modular kitchen block anchors the communal area, specified to perform in demanding daily use.

In a commercial context, the case for freestanding is as much financial as it is environmental. When a lease ends or a space changes use, a fitted kitchen is a strip-out cost. A Somer kitchen moves with the business, or returns to us. No skip, no waste, no bill for a refit that didn't need to happen.

The quality of the material and the logic of the system were the right fit for a client and architect who take the long view on the spaces they create.
