The furniture industry has a waste problem. Somer is the alternative.

Transforming the furniture industry one piece at a time
We’re challenging throwaway culture with a new model for furniture design and production. We believe waste is a design flaw - it should be eliminated at the sketchpad. While circularity, the potential to repair, reuse, and recycle - must be designed in from the beginning.
Design-led furniture for a circular economy
People everywhere are paying for furniture that fails, cannot be repaired or reused, and pollutes the planet we all share. We’re here to change that.
Our cradle-to-cradle philosophy
We create furniture of enduring quality using solid timber for many years of use and reuse. When you move, take your freestanding Somer kitchen with you. When the time comes, refurbish it or resell it with our buy-back scheme and online marketplace. When your furniture finally reaches the end of its life, we’ll help you recycle it or return it to the earth to fuel new life.
Tech-enabled craftsmanship
We bring together precision technology and skilled hands to ensure every piece leaves the workshop to the same exacting standard. Our Somerset workshop combines deep material knowledge with tools that allow us to work with accuracy and consistency across every project, however complex.
The problem with disposable furniture
The furniture industry is plagued by short-lived products made from non-renewable materials, depleting our natural resources and contributing to a cycle of waste and pollution. Fitted furniture is not designed for re use, regardless of the length of its guarantee. This unsound thinking means that 20 million pieces of furniture are thrown away in the UK each year, most of which goes straight to landfill, where it leaches harmful chemicals into the earth.
The better choice
Somer furniture is built to serve you for decades, not years. That is what responsible making looks like.
